Ten years ago we had some pretty radical notions about what would make the perfect pow ski, and you could see it in a lot of the shapes we pressed back then. We’ve come a long way since, and in many ways we’ve gone back to the basics—but there’ll always be a few concepts that we just can’t stop thinking about.
The Ghost Chant is one of those. We’ll be upfront: it’s not for every skier, and it’s definitely not for all conditions. But when the snow is right—and by right, we mean deep, with the kind of moisture that helps it stick to impossible angles and creates a deathproof cushion for your dumbest hucks—it’s like you’ve discovered the Holy Grail and the power of flight in a single package. Flat underfoot, more rocker than we’d ever packed into a ski at the time (or since), fully symmetrical dimensions, a dead-center mount and a sweet, sweet, soft, poppy, bamboo core.
The result is something you have to experience to understand. This is a park ski built for double overhead—turning the smallest pillows into a butterfest and the shortest pitches of buried moguls into a playpen you can lap from bell to bell. Never landed switch in pow? Now you have a fighting chance. Get it into some cold smoke, and you’ve never surfed like this before. Ski it somewhere that supplies coastal snow in copious amounts—like Japan, for example—and your head will absolutely explode. Trust us.
Nothing, and we mean nothing, is more playful, more balanced, or surfs low angle pow better than the Ghost Chant. This is not a ski for charging steeps, stomping bombed-out landings, or railing GS turns through a refrozen asteroid field—we have other skis for that. The Ghost Chant is for those who know double digits in the forecast means lacing a new rotation or finally getting those switch pow landings and whiteroom reverts dialed (and if you don’t know what that means—well then, it’s not for you).
Some things, much like a fine wine or a beautiful work of art, are best enjoyed at a leisurely pace. If you believe hero pow is one of those things, the Ghost Chant is here to haunt your dreams and bring out the playful demons within.
Happy Halloween
