Here’s the idea behind Flylow’s Good Lab: We create a unique, durable product that you’ll use and love in the mountains. You’ll love it even more because the profits from that product go to benefit a nonprofit or community organization working for an issue you believe in. Win, win, right?
Our latest Good Lab project? Recently, we teamed up with Moment Skis and the Tahoe Backcountry Alliance to build a customized ski that’ll benefit backcountry endeavors in the Sierra. The Tahoe Backcountry Alliance advocates for human-powered winter adventures in Tahoe’s vast backcountry. It’s a collection of passionate people working to protect and serve well-loved wilderness areas like Mount Tallac, Rubicon Peak, Pyramid Peak, and more. They work on issues like access, parking, conservation, and education.
The ski, hand-built in Reno, Nevada, by our friends at Moment Skis, is a customized version of Moment’s brand new Wildcat Tour 108, a lightweight touring ski with rocker in the tip and tail and camber underfoot. At 108 mm in the waist, it’s fat enough for pow days but still skinny enough for spring couloirs.
The original topsheet, made just for this ski, was designed by Tahoe-based creative Jen GilanFarr, who took 70s surf art and fused it with topography maps of Tahoe’s Castle Peak and Mount Tallac—two of the places the Tahoe Backcountry Alliance is working to protect.
All of the profits from this one-off ski will go to benefit the Tahoe Backcountry Alliance.
This special ski is limited to only 30 pairs.
