Pressing a few thousand pairs of badass touring skis over the years, we’ve learned a thing or two—all that knowledge led us to the Deathwish Tour 104. Built for big days, multi-mile approaches, crushing vert following type-2-fun-junkies to God knows where, corn harvests on your favorite volcanoes and all of the shark-fin-infested ridgeline traverses that go along with it. The 104 packs all the versatility of its wider brother into a more agile package for more grip on the skinner, more suspension, and more composure for teeth-rattling windboard descents when you get the timing wrong. The worse the conditions, the more it REALLY shines.
European beech stringers and a healthy dose of Triple Camber, the 104 stuns with how damp and substantial it feels for how light and whippable it is. Impressively composed from drop-in to runout—something you may not notice as much on turn one, but deeply appreciate when you hit the cat track back to the yurt after your third thigh-burning multi-thousand-foot descent of the day. A touch more rearward mount and tighter dual-radius sidecut than its wider counterpart, it kick-turns all that much easier on the up and drives that much harder on the down—as if you needed any more encouragement.
The numbers don’t lie. Our best selling touring ski of all time had to take a backseat—right behind its little brother. For good reason, there’s very little the 104 doesn’t do well. When you’re way out there (we mean WAY out there), you never know what to expect, and it’s pretty nice knowing that come what may, what’s on your feet will get it done. One less thing to worry about and one less excuse holding you back—assuming you can keep up.
